The polishing of the disk electrode is very necessary. The purpose of polishing is to remove the redox products accumulated on the surface of the working electrode. The polishing operation can keep the working electrode in good condition in static or flow cell measurement.

Product Details

Generally, 0.05um alumina polishing powder is the most suitable for polishing disk electrodes. Unless, when you find scratches on the electrode, you need to use 1.0um, 0.3um and 0.05um alumina polishing powder to polish the electrode. After each step of polishing, you need to check the electrode surface.

In addition, please use the same alumina polishing powder for polishing. If 1.0um alumina powder cannot erase the scratches, you should first use 1200 grit sandpaper to polish. When 0.05um alumina powder is used, the electrode surface will have a mirror gloss.

Nylon polishing cloth (black) is used in conjunction with 1.0um alumina polishing powder, and Microcloth polishing flannel (coffee color) is prepared for 0.3um and 0.05um alumina powder. The backs of these two cloths are sticky. Remove the coating covering the stickiness and press the polishing cloth tightly on the dry and clean glass base. Please ensure that there are no air bubbles between the glass pad and the polishing cloth.

Before polishing, sprinkle a small amount of alumina polishing powder on the polishing cloth and moisten it with distilled water. When polishing, hold the electrode vertically and firmly (do not use too much force). If the polishing cloth dries out, add distilled water before continuing polishing.

Before using the smaller alumina powder, wash the electrode thoroughly and wash your hands thoroughly with water. If you accidentally sprinkle the large powder on the small powder polishing cloth, you will not be able to get the effect that the small powder can achieve.

You must be careful when handling dry powder. Do not put large powders into small powder bottles. Do not exchange powder bottle covers (caps) at will. When taking the alumina powder from the bottle, use different spoons for different bottles.

How to choose ordinary electrochemical cell and sealed electrochemical cell?

The sealed electrolytic cell is equipped with hollow sealing screws and fluorine rubber O-rings to install and seal the entire device, and then pass inert gas into the cell body to drive out the excess gas inside the cell body to realize the test of the system in an inert environment. If there is no requirement for tightness, no ventilation operation is required. However, if you choose an ordinary electrochemical cell, the related operations of the sealed electrolytic cell cannot be realized.

What volume of electrochemical cell is suitable to choose?

The volume of the electrolytic cell should be selected moderately. If the volume is too large, the amount of solution will be too much, which is unnecessary. During electrochemical measurement, the electrode surface undergoes oxidation and reduction reactions, and some substances in the solution are reduced by participating in the electrode reaction. At the same time, some reaction products will dissolve into the solution. If the volume of the electrolytic cell is too small, the solution concentration will change significantly during the long-term steady-state measurement, which will eventually affect the experimental results. In most cases, the volume of 50ml and 100ml are more choices.

How to choose a working electrode?

Common working electrodes include disk electrodes and replaceable electrode holders. The disk electrode is suitable as the base of the modified material, and it is modified to the base area of the disk electrode by mixing a membrane solution or the like with a powdered material. And if the material being studied is a sheet-like structure or the material can be modified to suitable materials such as conductive glass, carbon paper, carbon cloth, etc., it is more practical to choose a replaceable electrode clip.

How to choose a reference electrode?

Generally speaking, calomel electrode or Ag/AgCl reference electrode is used in neutral system. Since the potential of calomel electrode changes greatly with temperature, when the temperature exceeds 70 degrees, it needs to be used with a salt bridge or replaced Use Ag/AgCl reference electrode. Hg2SO4 reference electrodes are generally suitable for sulfuric acid or sulfate systems. Hg/HgO reference electrodes are generally suitable for alkaline electrolyte solutions, of which the strong alkali system also needs to be used with a salt bridge, and the filling liquid in the salt bridge is consistent with the filling liquid of the reference electrode.
